Driving to Las Vegas for the IPCPR Trade Show, I decided to go through Montana, Wyoming & Colorado on I-90, instead of my usual route through Montana on I-15.
For a cigar lover, the I-90 route is a much better option, with some great cigar lounges to visit along the way.
Casper Cigar Company is located, as the name implies, in Casper, Wyoming,
at 1831 Cy Avenue. It’s open Monday to Saturday from 10am-7pm.
As soon as I stepped out of the Volvo, I could smell freedom – freedom to smoke a premium cigar in a friendly environment.
Casper Cigar Company has a terrific selection of mostly boutique brands, including Black Label Trading, Caldwell, Southern Draw & Warped cigars.
I was able to sit down with the owner, Josh, who explained his journey into premium cigar appreciation. A self-described “nerd” who likes to learn by reading fact based manuals rather than fiction, he also enjoys off-roading in his Jeep and he’s a ham-radio operator.
When it comes to tobacco, he loves what cigars brings to the experience … what a particular leaf can bring to the blend, providing nuance, taste & aroma.
Prior to opening Casper Cigar Company, Josh was on the road, visiting cities throughout the country. His travels allowed him to try hundreds of different cigars.
As a result, not only did he find the cigars that are the perfect fit for his humidor, he was also able to do key market research on what made a cigar lounge truly great.
He put those lessons into play when he opened Casper Cigar Company a few years ago, a business that’s thriving today.
Josh explained that for him, cigars are truly a family: “how can you not be passionate about cigars that are made by people for whom you feel a deep connection to”.
That’s how he decides what goes into his humidor and, by extension, that passion is his guarantee when you purchase a cigar in his shop, you’ll feel that love.
In terms of how he defines the premium cigar experience, Josh describes himself as a “mood smoker” who selects a stick based on whether he’s looking for a mild, medium or full-bodied smoke. The humidor has plenty of options for every kind of cigar-enthusiast.
Casper Cigar Company has a down-home feel from the moment you walk through the front doors.
There’s a small smoking area right at the front entrance.
There’s a larger smoking space adjacent to the entrance, complete with vast displays of cigar paraphernalia throughout.
There’s tables & chairs available for those who want to set up their computers and get some work done.
The main lounge area is filled with regulars who come to relax in the deep, comfortable executive chairs, while they herf & watch sports on the large screen TV’s.
A strong supporter of both Cigar Rights of America as well as Cigars for Warriors, Casper Cigar Company does all the right things for all aspects of the cigar community.
This must-visit cigar lounge has received the seal of approval from
Cigar Dojo, one of the best cigar sites in the business.
For my CigarHerf during the visit, I chose the Southern Draw Cigars “Rose of Sharon”.
It’s a cigar that’s been getting plenty of attention from the cigar community and it delivers a great smoking experience:
The Rose of Sharon embraces a unique blend that will enhance the current Southern Draw Cigars core line including the Kudzu – Oscuro and Firethorn – Rosado blends. A very well-balanced cigar with Mild Body – Medium Flavor.
The natural cloud cover of Ecuador has supplied us with a prized wrapper, a velvety feel, gentle sweetness and a toasty burn, our beloved Nicaragua has gifted us with rich and elegant binder and filler tobaccos while the distinct Piloto Cubano of the Dominican Republic adds a dose of boldness and spice that allows this blend live up to its moniker. “She don’t know she’s beautiful!”
Besides the apparent beauty of The Rose of Sharon in its semi box pressed format, the release is a celebration of Grace and the devotion of Sharon Holt as she continues her daily service via strong faith and daily fellowship. “Much like a Rose, Sharon exemplifies the Southern Draws brand with her beautiful soul, humility and a “subtle” boldness which has made an incredible impact on so many lives. We truly needed to acknowledge her.
