LarutaN Big Jucy. Drew Estate

LarutaN Big Jucy Horizontal

What was old is new again.
“The Drew Estate Natural which first came out in 2000 was rebranded as LarutaN in time for IPCPR 2017.
The company says it feared the FDA might start to target products with names such as “Natural” so it spelled the word backwards to come up with Larutan”

The name may have changed but the cigar hasn’t.
It is crafted using the finest Nicaraguan leaf combined with traditional black tobaccos from Syria , Turkey , St. James Parish ( Louisiana ) and other exotic locales.
Each front-mark has its own distinctive blend making for a unique and satisfying smoke ranging from mild to bold.

The smell of the foot has bold hints of herbs.
The cold draw has sweet tastes of licorice from the wrapper.
The pig tail at the head was easily cut with the guillotine cutter.
The foot band was easily removed and the foot itself is a bit shaggy which made for an easy light with the triple torch lighter.
On the retrohale I noticed some spice.
The ash is cement-grey and very straight.
It only started to tilt very slightly after the first third of the cigar.
In fact, the ash didn’t fall off the cigar until almost half way.
I was still getting some licorice taste off the wrapper as I smoked the cigar.
The burn line was consistent and the heat was about a thumb’s width from the line.
The primary band was removed easily.

Overall I would say the Drew Estate LarutaN Big Jucy is a mild cigar.
I didn’t feel any buzz while smoking the cigar.
This might be a good cigar for someone who is new to cigars or someone who doesn’t usually smoke cigars.
The sweet taste from the wrapper might appeal to those who like flavour in their cigars.
This might be a good cigar for a longest ash competition since the ash was very strong and tight.
Smoking time: Approximately 1 hour

The cigar used in this review was graciously supplied by Drew Estate at IPCPR 2017.
